[Commonplace book of Reverend Seaborn Cotton, 1650-1752].

Small leather bound commonplace book that belonged to the Rev. Seaborn Cotton of Hampton, N.H., to his son and successor, the Rev. John Cotton, and to the latter's son-in-law and successor, the Rev. Nathaniel Gookin. Entries include copies of songs, ballads, and prose extracts written while Seaborn was in college (1648-1651) as well as church records (including meetings, admissions, list of members, baptisms, etc.) written while minister in Hampton. Includes Seaborn Cotton's family records and John Cotton's family records 1687-1710 followed by misc. family records 1710-1752. Book also includes Hampton church records written by John Cotton and some ballads, poetry and astrological entries by "D.C."--Perhaps Seaborn's wife Dorothy (Bradstreet) Cotton.
